Project Overview
Zaytun Restaurant is a popular dining place in Bangladesh Air Force Museum, Agargaon, Dhaka. The restaurant is a one-of-a-kind experience, combining aviation history with a culinary art, and guests can enjoy their meals while surrounded by vintage aircraft and lush greenery. From signature Turkish and Reshmi Kebabs to hearty Chinese and Thai set menus, Zaytun is a top spot for family outings, corporate parties and big social events.
We were asked to build a strong online presence that would not only reflect the look and feel they had in real life, but also address a major pain point in their operations: the complex event management process that they needed to streamline with a fully custom, highly efficient booking system.
The Challenge
The challenge Zaytun presented to us was one that had a number of unique digital challenges that a standard template could not address:
- Thematic UI/UX Integration: The website had to convey the open, airy, and historic atmosphere of the Air Force Museum, while also retaining high fidelity, a modern, and modern look. The design needed to be high quality, but easy to use, with menus and venue facilities easy to navigate.
- Complex Booking Requirements: These are typically bulkier and sometimes very one-size-fits-all, designed for hourly bookings (such as salons or clinics). Zaytun needed a very specific event booking process, with a range of different program types (Weddings, Holuds, Corporate Events, Birthdays) and a variety of time blocks (Morning, Noon, Afternoon, Evening).
- Operational Efficiency: The restaurant management team needed a clean utility interface. They needed a back end that would give them a clean, clutter-free interface to quickly approve, monitor and manage large party bookings without getting lost in unnecessary WordPress features.
Strategic Execution Plan
To achieve accuracy and less disruption of their current marketing efforts we divided the project into four different phases:
- Phase 1: Discovery & Aesthetic Alignment: We started by establishing the user journey and designed a front-end that was visually compelling, emphasising the unusual museum context. We focused on high quality images, easy interactions and a clean typography hierarchy.
- Phase 2: Custom Plugin Architecture: We avoided third party booking plugins altogether. In fact, we built a light and minimalistic WordPress plugin that only contained Zaytun’s event reservation logic, with no feature bloat and the highest level of security.
- Phase 3: Seamless Integration: We connected the front end, which is highly visual, with our custom backend API, using asynchronous data transfers to prevent any user from having to wait for a page refresh or disruption when they submit a booking request.
- Phase 4: Operational Handoff: We were able to customize the WordPress admin dashboard, remove irrelevant menus, and give the staff a streamlined and intuitive lead management interface.
Technical Architecture & Solutions
1. The Frontend Experience (Crafted with Elementor)
To ensure rapid development alongside complete visual control, we utilized Elementor as our primary site builder. However, we went beyond basic drag-and-drop mechanics to engineer a highly optimized frontend:
- Immersive Visual Storytelling: We created dynamic and responsive galleries and interactive sections that showcased their core products, ranging from the indoor/outdoor seating by the aircraft to the details of their extensive menu.
- Frictionless Information Architecture: We created interactive Testimonials and a dynamic FAQ section to anticipate common user inquiries, including entry tickets needed to visit the museum and where to park, thus alleviating pressure on their phone lines.
- Aggressive Performance Optimization: We understood that the quality of the images would be a crucial factor for a restaurant, so we worked hard to optimize the DOM size, used next generation image formats, and deferred non-critical scripts. This helped to keep the site’s loading times
2. Bespoke Event Booking Architecture
The cornerstone of this project was the custom event booking architecture. By engineering a proprietary solution, we protected server resources and maintained rapid backend query speeds.
- Tailored Data Structures: The custom event booking architecture was the core of this project. We created a custom solution to safeguard server resources and ensure that queries to the back end would be processed quickly.
- Advanced Lead Routing & Notifications: Added a comprehensive notification matrix. Upon the user’s submission of a reservation request, automated and sanitized payloads send emails directly to the management, eliminating the risk of losing high-value event leads.
- AJAX-Powered Interactions: The booking form was designed to be a light weight modal overlay. Once a user completes their information, the payload is securely sent in the background through the WordPress REST API. This provides a seamless and luxurious touch, providing the user with immediate feedback without the abrupt sensation of a page refresh.
Clean Utility Administrative Dashboard
We made a lot of changes to the original WordPress admin panel to make it suitable for the restaurant environment. We added unnecessary technical menus and added a “Reservations” hub. The dashboard is clean and has a utility focus, enabling management to have a quick overview of incoming leads, categorise them by event type and update them to Pending, Confirmed, Completed or other statuses with just a few clicks.
The Result
We created a seamless, efficient platform that leverages the visual capabilities of Elementor and the customization power of our own plugin. With a clean, streamlined dashboard and clear workflow, the Zaytun management team can now process massive amounts of event requests with ease. At the same time, their customers experience a seamless and engaging digital experience, which perfectly captures the one-of-a-kind, real-life magic of eating at the Bangladesh Air Force Museum.
